Florida Affordable Housing Programs

Florida is on track to benefit from a total of 206,000 Recovery Act jobs of local companies that can hire new employees, workers who are no longer faced with uncertainty, and families that no longer need to struggle to pay their bills. Grants help pay for the purchase and rehabilitation of vacant or foreclosed residential properties with an opportunity to help provide down payment assistance to help families purchase homes. Money was set aside to provide the first time home buyer tax credit, grants for affordable housing and to help first time home buyers with down payments and closing costs. The goals of the Recovery Act in Florida are to create new jobs, as well as save existing ones; spur economic activity and invest in long-term economic growth; foster unprecedented levels of accountability and transparency in government spending.

Florida Community Loan Fund
At its core, community development is creating opportunities for people with limited resources to improve their lives. By offering tools for people in Florida to prosper, community development nonprofit's are transforming and improving Florida one person at a time; one family at a time; one community at a time. People, like communities, develop and thrive when they are strong---when their housing is safe, sustainable and affordable, when quality services such as childcare and healthcare are accessible and affordable, and when adequate programs and facilities are there to provide support in times of need.

The Loan Fund delivers capital to Florida non-profit organizations that engage in community development. Its capital supports essential social change and helps finance the community solutions that make Florida people and communities stronger.

Florida Housing Finance Corporation

Florida Housing was created by the Florida Legislature more than 25 years ago to help our fellow Floridians obtain safe, decent affordable housing that might otherwise be unavailable to them.

Today, Florida Housing continues its mission by increasing affordable housing opportunities and ensuring that its programs are well matched to the needs of those they serve. Florida Housing works with local governments, non-profits, elected officials and others to help spread the importance of affordable housing in Florida’s communities.

FHFC's main desire is to supply of safe, affordable housing for Florida individuals and families with very low to moderate incomes by stimulating investment of private capital and encouraging public and private sector housing partnerships.

FHL Bank Community Programs

The Federal Home Loan Bank System provides a stable source of funding to federally insured depository institutions. 12 regional banks in the Federal Home Loan Bank System, which raises funds in the global financial markets and distributes the proceeds to members and local communities.

Serving the economic and housing needs of communities by providing local banks with flexible options for community development initiatives. Contributing to community non-profits in the form of grants and subsidized advances that help build affordable housing. These funds have help construct more affordable housing units and have contributed to job growth throughout the region.

Florida Hardest-Hit Fund
The federal government has allocated Florida foreclosure prevention assistance programs to help pay the mortgages of qualified homeowners who are unemployed or underemployed through no fault of their own. Homeowners who qualify for financial assistance may receive up to 6 months of monthly mortgage payments and/or funds to pay past due mortgage payments to bring the mortgage current; these funds are paid directly to the loan service/lender. The program is for Florida owner-occupied primary resident property and to become available statewide early in 2011.

Florida Housing Coalition
The Florida Housing Coalition, Inc., is a nonprofit, statewide membership organization whose mission is to act as a catalyst to bring together housing advocates and resources so that all Floridians have a quality affordable home and suitable living environment.

The Coalition provides professional services through training and technical assistance on affordable housing and related issues; supports community-based partnerships in leveraging resources; and advocates for policies, programs and use of funding resources that maximize the availability and improve the quality of affordable housing in Florida. The Coalition carries out this mission recognizing that affordable housing is an integral part of community revitalization and economic development.


Affordable Housing Coalition of Florida
The Affordable Housing Coalition of Florida (AHCF) is a partnership of both non-profit and for profit community based organizations. Serving as a catalyst for the development of affordable housing options for Florida state’s diverse workforce.

AHCF is a member-led effort, which recognizes the link between housing availability and Florida’s economic vitality. Working to educate the public and policymakers about the need for a balanced supply of housing, advocacy for a streamlined regulatory environment, and supporting developers committed to creating quality housing to low and moderate income families in Florida. The Coalition's combined efforts help stimulate the approval and construction of a significant number of units that might not otherwise be built.

Florida Supportive Housing Coalition
Founded in November 2001, the Florida Supportive Housing Coalition (FSHC) is committed to promoting long-term housing solutions for people with special needs, particularly the homeless, disabled, elderly, people with mental illnesses, and other special populations.

The FSHC is dedicated to advocating for public policy and governmental structures that encourage self-sufficiency, housing choice, and community-based opportunities for people with special needs in Florida. In its short history, The Florida Supportive Housing Coalition has placed great emphasis on coalition building. In part a “coalition of coalitions”, it has eight Partner Organizations that share common goals and are working together to achieve them. It has also brought together supportive housing advocates, consumers of supportive housing and organizations serving different populations who confront the same supportive housing challenges.

Department of Housing and Urban Development
HUD’s mission is to create strong, sustainable, inclusive communities and quality affordable homes for all. HUD is working to strengthen the Florida housing market to bolster the economy and protect consumers; meet the need for quality affordable rental homes; utilize housing as a platform for improving quality of life; build inclusive and sustainable communities free from discrimination; and transform the way HUD does business.

HUD awards grants to organizations and groups for a variety of purposes. Working with local Florida nonprofit organizations to invest in their communities through property rehabilitation and resell to first time home buyers and low to moderate income families.
